Caring for crochet
Handmade crochet lasts for years if it is treated gently. Always check the care label on your piece first; these are the general rules.
Washing
- Hand wash in cool water (30 °C at most) with a mild wool or delicates detergent.
- Press the water through gently. Never rub, twist or wring the piece.
- Wash dark and bright colours on their own the first few times.
Drying
- Roll the piece in a towel to take out most of the water.
- Lay it flat on a dry towel and ease it back into shape.
- Keep it away from direct sun and radiators, and never use a tumble dryer.
Storing
- Fold crochet; do not hang it. Hanging stretches the stitches over time.
- Store it clean and dry, with cedar or lavender to keep moths away.
- Small bobbles of fibre (pilling) are normal with wear and can be removed with a fabric comb.
A pulled stitch
Do not cut a loose loop. Ease it back into place from the inside, or contact us and we will help.
